You are one of these 3

I have yet to schedule my exam

Register for your exam and start Xcel (study course).

I passed my exam!

Congratulations! Now it’s time to file for your license and get set up with the carriers.

I submitted my appointment requests with the carriers.

Awesome. It’s time to train and start dialing the phones.

Scheduling State Exam:

There are 3 companies that administer insurance license exams: Pearson Vue, Prometric, and PSI. All states fall into 1 of these 3 (except AL and KY).

AK, CO, DE, FL, GA, HA, IL, IN, IA, KS, ME, MN, MS, MO, MT, NV, NC, RI, SD, TN, TX, WY.

AZ, CT, MD, MA, NE, NH, NM, ND, OH, OK, UT, VT, VA, WV.

AR, CA, ID, LA, MI, NJ, NY, OR, PA, SC, WA, WI.

Search Google for the exact registration link for you. E.g. "psi nevada life insurance exam"

Once you schedule your exam, forward Aaliyah (aaliyah@fflmeditate.com) your confirmation email and we’ll give you the discount email code to purchase Xcel for $0.

Normally, Xcel charges $150 but at FFL we believe that training should be free, and that counts even before you get your license. Demonstrate you’re serious by booking your exam, and we’ll take care of the study cost.

You Passed Your Exam: Congratulations!

Your license will not automatically arrive in your inbox, you must apply for it! Do so at nipr.com or sircon.com as a “resident producer” of life insurance. The application is pretty straightforward, but note that the past 5-year employment history cannot have any gaps (include unemployment and schooling if applicable).

Depending on your state, you’ll have to submit fingerprints with your license application. This is done after you pass your test, and can also be done after you submit your license application. Often times you can get fingerprints done at the facility you took your exam at. If not, most 3rd party fingerprint shops do state insurance license fingerprints (call beforehand to confirm). Afterwards, they’ll give you a proper paper receipt that you’ll have to take a photo of and attach to your license application. You can attach this after you’ve already submitted your license application. Just attach the photo at the NIPR Document Warehouse nipr.com/licensing-center/attachments and they’ll sync it with your application.

SuranceBay & Prosperity

Oh the magic SuranceBay. Once you get your license approved**

SuranceBay is where we send our appointment requests with each individual carrier. It’s like DocuSign on steroids. The 1 carrier that doesn’t use SuranceBay is called Prosperity – they have a different contracting system. It works very similar to SuranceBay… so if you can figure out SuranceBay, you’ll be fine with Prosperity. Contracting link is below. Choose “9 months on settle” with a max advance amount of $3,000.

Watch the tutorial video if you need any help:

Get Organized

  • Make a personal duplicate copy of this spreadsheet and plug in your agent numbers with each carrier
  • Set up your “back office” with each carrier once you get your agent number. Familiarize yourself with their platforms, quote tools, and e-apps.
  • Save the carrier phone numbers in your phone!
  • Download FFL DOCS here
  • Print and laminate your state license, and “FFL – carrier sheet” found in FFL DOCS
  • Get yourself a briefcase or backpack
  • Get a planner. We love this one
  • Print paper apps for: CFG, Mutual of Omaha, and Royal Neighbors. CFG and Royal Neighbors require you to write a paper app before they’ll process your appointment request, that’s why they’re not in your SuranceBay yet.
  • Organize yourself with some folders or whatever you feel works for you!

Training.

1 hour in the field is worth 5 hours of classroom training. Field time will be your biggest ally moving forward, however we gotta give you some guidelines.

Paul McClain, President of FFL West Coast (the #1 largest agency within Family First Life) hosts the Fast-Start Agent Bootcamp. No, you won’t be tested on it and we will still work with you if you don’t memorize all of the videos word-for-word, but Paul has helped thousands of agents get started strong with this program. Create an account so you don’t lose progress when you close the tab.

If you complete the bootcamp within 72 hours, you will get a 5% comp bump right out of the gate!

1

Make an FFL email

You're going to want to separate things from the get-go. A good email is simple.
2

Register for exam

In order to sell life insurance, you need a license. In order to get licensed, you need to pass your resident state's exam.
3

Get Xcel

Xcel is the study course that will prepare you for your state's exam. At FFL, training is always free. If you demonstrate that you're serious about getting started, we will pay for Xcel for you (normally $150). Forward aaliyah@fflmeditate.com your confirmation email and we'll send you the discount code.
4

Ace Your Exam

On Xcel, simulate the exam many many times. Take note of the correct answers, then try again. Some agents have passed their test in less than 5 days by doing this method exclusively.
5

License Application

You won't be issued an insurance license without applying for one! Apply for your resident producer license at nipr.com or sircon.com
6

Fingerprints

Depending on the state, fingerprints are required. Research if your state requires fingerprints with the application. If so, get them done at a local spot in your area, scan the paper receipt, and upload to the NIPR Document Warehouse https://nipr.com/licensing-center/attachments
7

License Approval

This usually takes 10 business days. You'll get an email from NIPR or Sircon depending on which one you applied with. Download the pdf of your license!!
8

HCMS

You will get an email from HCMS asking you to validate your information. This is the system we use to keep track of hierarchies.
9

SuranceBay

We use a platform called SuranceBay to send out contracting paperwork to the carriers. Use the link in the top menu to get started.
10

Start Training

It usually takes another 10 business days to get approved with each carrier. They will send you a welcome email with your agent number via email. During those waiting days, start the New Agent Bootcamp hosted by Paul McClain. If you complete the course within 72 hours, you will be given a 5% comp bump right out of the gate!
11

Get Organized

Use the "Agent #s" template to keep track of your agent numbers. Register your agent account with each of the carrier's backoffices. Establish a "setup" that works for you whether it be a briefcase or backpack, a compartment clipboard or folders, an iPad or laptop.
